Hemingway and the Bet

Flash fiction, basically means a story that can be told in a few words or sentences. The trend is catching up with the modern readers, who have developed a tendency of shorter attention spans and thus a low desire towards reading a long and a complex story.


Ernest Hemingway, one of the most influential writer ever lived had a significant role in setting a trend for flash fiction and tales.

One of the famous incidents from his life happened when he was out for lunch with his friends. So, during their conversation, Hemingway made a bet that he could write a story right here right now. Everyone laughed at such a proposition and further challenged him for such a preposterous bet. Hemingway took a napkin from the table and started writing. He finished within a minute and handed the napkin to them. They read and were taken aback by his sheer genius.
