Pink Floyd’s iconic album “The Wall” had one song about education. Yes, I am talking about the famous “Another brick in the wall”.
“We don’t need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall.
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.”
What does it mean?
Modern education has taken a toll. Today, education is all about getting marks and cut throat competition. It’s not about learning. It’s not about curiosity. It’s not about skill.
IT’S ALL ABOUT SUCCESS.
Teachers have grown darker over the years. They masquerade success with marks scored in an exam.
Take the case of education system of India.
Here teachers are underpaid, arrogant, vicious and possess lack of social skills. They don’t care about the well being of a child. All they care about the marks he or she can score.
Good marks in exams means a good college (Engineering or Medical) and that means good white collar job means respect from society.
When your education is all about manufacturing a half baked educated work force to work long hours for the creative minds of the western countries, then my friend, the system is rotten to the core.
Hey, what about teachers encouraging children towards their ambitions.?
What about parents helping children decide their course in life, so rather than becoming a slave to society, he or she could actually be happy?
This never happens.
The previous generation has bred our parents and today’s teachers. They had been taught to blindly obey and find happiness in whatever their elders think is right for them.
They are broken and frustrated and this affects the children studying in schools and colleges in India at present.
THEY DON’T CARE IF WE WANT TO DANCE OR ACT OR PAINT OR SING OR STUDY.
THEY WANT US TO BECOME A MANIFESTATION OF ALL THAT THEY BELIEVE IN.
TEACHERS IN INDIA BULLY, ABUSE, HARASS CHILDREN AND IT’S CONSIDER APPROPRIATE FOR THEIR SO CALLED DEVELOPMENT.
BASICALLY WE ARE TAUGHT HOW TO ENDURE RATHER HOW WE CAN BE CREATIVE AND BE USEFUL TO OTHERS AND TO OURSELVES.
WE ARE JUST PRODUCTS OF THEIR RUNDOWN AND DILAPIDATED MACHINE.
ALL I WANT TO SAY TO THEM IS – ” All and all, you’re just another brick in the wall”.
